Details
The Museum Mineralogia Munich is the publicly accessible part of the Mineralogical State Collection Munich. The main part of the showcases is grouped around the large lecture hall of the institute building. In the western part, in the corridor leading to the scientific institutes, there are showcases dedicated to the explanation of mineralogical and crystallographic concepts.
Movable experimental arrangements that visitors can operate themselves, models and, of course, the matching mineral specimens and single crystals explain concepts such as crystal structure, symmetry elements, mineral optics, crystal growth, crystal growth and much more. Here, visitors are gently introduced to the science of mineralogy. The wall showcases in this area are dedicated to the presentation of crystal structure, unless they are needed for a special exhibition.
The showcases in the east of the large lecture hall serve, among other things, as an “action area” for the short-term presentation of particularly topical subjects. A separate display case is available to the Munich Association of Mineral Friends, which supports the museum financially; it is designed in rotation by the individual sections of the association under selected themes.
In addition to these showcases, which are accessible in the passageways, the museum also has a separate exhibition room in which new special exhibitions are held every year.
