Decades of passion for searching for and collecting minerals have given rise to the most important mineral museum in the Eastern Alps. Around 1,000 individual pieces are displayed on 300 square meters of exhibition space. They are all impressive testimonies to geological processes that took place deep within the Earth's interior some 30 million years ago.
Many of these extraordinary minerals would have been lost without the courageous efforts of dedicated collectors, destroyed by natural influences such as frost, water, and erosion.
Highlights of the exhibition include the largest smoky quartz specimens in South Tyrol, a faithfully reproduced Alpine cleft, and what is probably the world's most beautiful rock crystal from the Predoi mine.
A modern multimedia room illustrates the formation of minerals, their search, and their purported healing properties, making a visit to the museum an experience for all the senses.
