The Upper Pinzgau village of Bramberg (province of Salzburg) is home to a very special museum with an extensive programme.
There are several exhibitions in the museum area of the Bramberg Museum: the mineralogical exhibition of the national park, the ethnological collection, the mining exhibition, an open-air area and other special exhibitions.
The national park exhibition ‘Emeralds and Crystals’ with one of the best mineral collections in Austria shows the diversity and splendour of minerals from the Hohe Tauern. With the help of state-of-the-art exhibition technology, the fascinating world of emeralds, rock crystals, titanites, fluorites, etc. is presented to mineral experts and laymen alike. The Habachtal emeralds, the bizarre epidote of the Knappenwand in Untersulzbachtal, marvellous sphenes and huge rock crystals are outstanding.
The museum's folk culture collection is extensive (rural art, religious art, handicrafts, dioramas, a large open-air area with a mining exhibition, ...) and offers several focal points. The museum dedicates an exhibition to the famous Viennese/Bramberg painter Josef Stoitzner, and there is also plenty of space for the world of bees.
From the coming season (from June 2025), there will also be a new exhibition entitled ‘Tauern Treasures - Alpine Man as Collector’, which presents the history of collecting from prehistoric times to the present day. In addition to the history of early collecting, we show life stories of well-known collectors with their best collectibles.
A visit to the Bramberg Museum can easily be combined with a hike into the Habachtal or other Tauern valleys.
