Mežica
📍 Mežica, Slovenia
Mežica lies in the Karawanken Mountains of northern Slovenia, close to the Austrian border. Lead and zinc were mined in Mount Peca above the town from 1665 until the 1990s; today a train takes visitors into the old workings.
The oxidation zone made Mežica known for wulfenite in thin yellow to orange plates, often on calcite, with descloizite and cerussite.
