Touissit
📍 Touissit-Bou Beker mining district, Jerada Province, Oriental Region, Morocco
The Touissit district lies in eastern Morocco near Oujda, close to the Algerian border. Its lead and zinc ores in Jurassic dolomite were mined on a large scale from the 1920s through most of the 20th century; many of the old workings are flooded today.
The oxidized ores made Touissit a classic for collectors: azurite in deep blue crystals, cerussite in colorless, lustrous V-shaped twins, and yellow anglesite on galena, with vanadinite, phosgenite and wulfenite in smaller amounts.
