Ojuela Mine

📍 Ojuela Mine, Mapimí, Mapimí Municipality, Durango, Mexico

The Ojuela Mine lies in the hills above Mapimí in Durango, northern Mexico. Its lead, zinc and silver ores were worked from the colonial period and on a large scale from the 1890s; the suspension bridge across the canyon to the workings dates from 1898. Commercial mining ended in the 1940s; local miners still dig specimens there. Collectors know Ojuela for its arsenates: adamite in yellow, green and purple sprays, legrandite in canary-yellow crystals, paradamite, mimetite and scorodite, together with hemimorphite and calcite on brown limonite.
